   For all intents and purposes, no.

   Very rarely, will someone be allowed out of their contract early, even if it’s to another branch (unless it’s to the Active Duty side of the same branch). The Army paid for your training, you’d be a loss for them if they didn’t get the time you promised to them.

   And on top of that, even if you COULD get out of it, you’d have to pay back the bonus.

   EDIT:

   $13,500 – Sounds about like that’s all of the bonus (after taxes, of course…lol…think the gov’t not gonna tax it?)

   Those are 2 completely different brances, but i think you will have to go through boot camp to be enlisted in the marines. Because the marines are by thier selfs, and is not related to the army or any branch that connects to another crew on the armed services.

   You will have to pay that bonus back and the marine corps will not accept you without 15 college credits right now. Also your commander is not going to let you transfer to another branch. Stick to your job and finish your contract.

   The Marines are not currently taking anyone who just hold a GED unless they have 15 college credits to back it up. You may be able to get it come Oct. You could also get the credits and not have to worry about that part.

   You need to see a Marine recruiter, and have him fill out and sign a 368 for you. Then you have to take that to your command to get signed. They have a choice in the matter and may or may not sign. If your unit is set to deploy soon or is short on people it is not likely to be signed. You may have to pay back some or all of the money you did receive. You will also most likely loose 1 rank going over. Remember the Marines will not guarantee you 0311. They will guarantee the 03 field in your contract, but will choose your actual MOS based on the needs of the Corps at the time.

   As the others said no until you do your CAARNG commitment and not have to paid back your bonus. You need to honor your commitment first. Also, if you want to step up your infantry “hooahness” and the USMC tell you they aren’t taking prior service “bullet stoppers” with your education background (which you can continue to elevate and enhance), you should just go join a Ranger Battalion or go SF to really step your game up. Remember your in the Guard. There aren’t too many infantry units that “all that” until they deploy. Some of the LRS (WI, TX, GA, IA, NE, PA) and SF (UT, AL, RI) ones are squared away, but as a whole (I worked at NTC and JRMC and I eval them here at FT. Riley) it deals with budgets and motivation.

   Think about that and what you are doing between drills vs. doing grunt life 24/7 in a good light/airborne or Ranger unit. And your bonus shouldn’t be the only thing you focus on in the military if you can’t lead or know your Battle Drills.

   A grunt is a grunt in a fire team wedge moving toward the OBJ no matter the branch, unit or method of insertion. Same shyt, different toliet bowls. See what else the Army has to offer before you try to jump ship and get the “finger.”

   shock and awe is right. marines are good, don’t get me wrong. however the odds are really slim right now. if you want to make double sure, go active duty infantry first. if you like that, go ranger. after being in, i’m not even a fan of the army, and i’d still say the sergeant seems to have to best advice on the table so far. good luck soldier!
