Is NYM trading Luis Castillo to SF for Aaron Rowand a realistic possibility?
Luis Castillo: 3 years/18 million
Aaron Rowand: 4 years/44 million + 4 million remaining in signing bonus.
Benefits for Giants:
Acquire a 2B. Shed 30 million off the payroll that can be used on pursuing free agents.
Benefit for the Mets:
Rowand’s known for being a great leader. He’s known for being a good defensive OF, being a good contact hitter and rarely hits into double plays. He’d perfectly slot in as the Mets 2 hitter. The Mets are in need of a 2 hitter and a right-handed hitting OF. To throw icing on the cake, the Phillies would hate it. I know the one concern would be if he’d be able to smoothly move to RF or LF. I’m sure he can and would be willing to.
I’ve heard rumorings of swaps for Eric Byrnes, Jose Guillen and Andruw Jones. I don’t believe Guillen would be as wise to take on though because he’s been a problem with several teams including KC.
And you’d only get one year with Jones who’s had two crappy back-to-back seasons.
Eric Byrnes – 2 years/22 Million
Jose Guillen – 2 years/22 million
Andruw Jones – 1 years/22.1 million (15 million + 7.1 in signing bonus)

I really like the Rowand/Castillo trade
it would be a great trade, for both clubs.
I think realistically it would be a great move for both teams, not only the Mets. The only real concern is Luis Castillo’s health, he has become quite brittle in the last 2 years.
EDIT: To comment on what Buck said, yea your right we need to focus on the bullpen. Lets’ be honest though, the Mets didn’t get clutch hits when the needed too. Besides all the bullpen troubles we were 1 game out of the playoffs, this team lacks leadership, they need a spark and I think Rowand would fit that role perfectly. In order for that to happen Delgado must go so Wright can take a leadership role with Rowand if the Mets do aquire him.
The Mets already have a CF,Carlos Beltran…They need to focus on rebuilding their bullpen.
Could happen i dont think the Giants would want a veteran like Castillo though there trying to build up young talent and the Mets have Beltran in center unless they want to move Rowand to left
Realistically, its a good move and Rowand would help them, and lets face it, the only way Omar will move Castillo’s contract is to take on another bad contract.
As for Andruw Jones, I really don’t want to see him in a Mets’ uniform, and I hope Omar has the sense to sign Orlando Hudson to play 2nd base, this guy has already said he wants to play there. When a guy says he wants to play for your team, you go out and get him.
Can’t see it – be great for the Mets but horrible for the Giants. After ditching Vizquel and Durham, why take on a 33 year old who hasn’t been any good since early in his career with the Twins (funny people don’t have a problem with Bernazard on this one)? Who’s going to play CF in SF for 150 games? Freddy Lewis? Right now they are going more towards youth with Burris at short and either Velez or Fransden (not doing too bad rehabbing in the AFL). If the Mets want a gamer, they should ship Castillo off for Eric Byrnes. Guillen’s a clubhouse cancer and Andruw needs Nutra System, a good swing doctor and the realization that a 12 year vet should have SOME idea about plate discipline and pitch recognition.
i would be the happiest person on earth if they traded for rowand or byrnes. we would have a pretty great outfield.
cf- Carlos Beltran(3 gold gloves)
rf- Ryan Church(one of the stongest arms in the mlb)
byrnes and rowand are just solid players
I think its possible, but the Yankees are known to be interested in Rowand in a Cain/Rowand blockbuster type deal.
